Technology could be leading the human race to extinction. Now I’m being overly dramatic to make a point. I have said this before and I will say this again, technology is making the human race more and more antisocial. Einstein even said “I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.”
While I don’t think we are quite there yet, I do believe technology is having a massive impact on human interactions and more importantly dating. We all think technology is making our lives easier and for the most part it probably is. However, what we recognize as easy could very well be making things harder.
Online dating is a prime example. We think online dating is making our lives easier because we can stay home and cruise through hundreds of potential mates within minutes. What we don’t realize is that we have completely lost the human element. We no longer look at the people in the profiles as humans but as objects. We process online dating like shopping for clothes online.
Then we are afraid of meeting these people online because they could be a complete psycho. Which is altogether possible because the only interaction you have had with them was via email or text. People can hide their unlikable personality traits behind a well written email or text.
This is why putting down you cellphones when you are out and about is so important. I will never forget, sitting on the bus while going to work one day and hearing a woman complain on her phone how see can’t find any men. Yet, there was one sitting beside her, two standing next to her, another two seated in front of her and another two behind her. She was literally surrounded by what appeared to be decent looking professional men.
I’m not saying only are the only ones that do this. Men no longer take the lead by calling a woman and asking her out. Instead we text and try to meet in a very round about way.
Technology is killing dating and relationships. When you go out, try talking with the people you are with instead of texting your other friends, put down your phone and look around yourself before texting that guy who is not with you to see if he wants to hook up. Take in your immediate surroundings and show the men around you that you are not too busy to talk by leaving your phone in your purse.
